Choosing a perfect Gift!

Got a dinner at your friend's place this weekend, in the rush of the work week, you have selected the dress you wear and the potluck dish but are still determining the gift. We all have been there!

For some people, gifting is as easy as passing on whatever the last people gifted who dined at their place. If you know another person who uses it better and will enjoy it more, that might be the best choice. But for others who value friendship and the efforts put into getting all friends/family together, a gift is a way to say "we love you" and appreciate what you do for us. It is a way you silently teach your children how to treat your friends in the future. It is what your host will look at and remember you, just after doing the dishes and thinking, "Oh! It's not much work; they are great people and love me, too."

For me, gifting is unique; I try to understand what will make them happy and that it is in my budget.
Things to keep in mind while picking a gift:-

Love
Let the gift show how much you honestly care; if it is a pass-on gift, they will know sooner or later. Gifting is just a humble way of passing love in this world.

Budget
Starting with a set budget is always worth one's time invested in buying the gift. Also, the budget doesn't have to be based on how much they spent last time on your donation but on how much you can afford and truly value their relationship.

For creative minds, a gift is always an opportunity to create something unique for your friend/family to make them feel special. If they are at the same wavelength as your creative level, they will significantly value that you specially made it for them. This shows you know their tastes and go the extra mile to customize it to their liking rather than picking something off the discount shelf.

Religion
It is essential to know the background of the person you are about to gift, some things may be outside the acceptable range regarding belief or religion. It does no harm to learn about your friend's religious beliefs. It will also guide you to a more productive conversation during the event.

In today's world, when everyone is struggling with an allergy, it is always wise to know if they suffer from any allergies. It will be a complete waste if you bake a cake with walnuts only to learn your friend is highly allergic to walnuts later. Not to mention how they feel receiving something they can't even use.

Re-gifting
Like I mentioned above sometimes a gift you received is excellent but not you, or you know it's better for someone else. It's always nice to follow the rules in re-gifting, too.  Sometimes, it's just best to leave a gift receipt in the gift bag, just in case the recipient wants to exchange it for something else, at least this way they pick something they like and it is from you.

There are a few more considerations to pick out the perfect gift.  Share your input on your last gift selection session and what you considered before picking up the right talent.
